On Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 my granddaughter Mikelle was admitted into the hospital for the 3rd time in a month.
On Thursday my daughter, Alina, called me in panic telling me that Mikelle was not well and kept passing out. After the phone call we rushed over there and the second I saw her I knew that we had to bring her to Primary Children's Hospital.
That night they continued to watch her but she was very obviously not improving. At that point they decided to to do a CT scan of her brain and take xrays of her chest. After waiting what seemed to be forever for results the doctor came in and sat down to tell us the sweet Mikelle has broken ribs and two spots of bleeding in her brain. Come to find out it was the result of being shaken. She was immediately taken up to PICU to be taken care of and watched.
This came to a complete shock to us as to how she could have possibly been shaken. Long story short, we found out that her father had accidently shaken her to hard after she had passed out after throwing up an entire feeding to wake her up. He was truly just trying to revive her, but this action has caused major damage to our Baby Mikelle.
Mikelle is now out of PICU but will be staying in the hospital probably for another week.
From birth Mikelle has had feeding issues, and now after this major trauma she can no longer keep any food down and is now on a feeding tube. They are slowly letting her drink milk from a bottle but she doesn't always keep it down. Because of all the vomitting she has lost a lot of weight.
They will be doing a radiology study on her on Tuesday, September 8th to see if she has an underlining issue in her stomach that might need surgery on, but until then we are just trying to keep nutrients in her.
Finances are already tuff for Alina and Adam, and now with all of this they will be even harder. So we are reaching out to our family and friends for help at this time.
