Rosie's Vet Bills

On September 30th, my sister Kelsey's beloved dog and adventure partner, Rosie, was in a disastrous accident and struck by a car. Rosie's hind end went under both the vehicle's front and rear tires, resulting in a broken and dislocated femur and a broken hip.

Rosie was immediately rushed to the local vet in Jackson, Wyoming where their excellent team was able to stabilize her and assess her injuries. After some touch-and-go, it was established that sweet Rosie will require a major and expensive surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy - FHO), and the nearest vet that can perform this surgery is in Salt Lake City.

Despite having pet insurance, the cost to get Rosie healed and healthy will be very expensive and insurance will not cover it all. Kelsey works tirelessly at two different jobs, but she has been the victim of a relentless series of unfortunate and costly hardships. Over the past few months, my sister had to pay out of pocket for ACL surgery, purchase a new (used) car after her car bit the dust, and pay for her upcoming shoulder surgery. Life has already been brutally unfair to her and now this.

For those of you who know Rosie, you know how rare and special of a dog she is. And for those of you who know my sister Kelsey, you know that this dog is her whole world. Anywhere Kelsey goes, whether skiing in the backcountry, hiking up steep mountains, or biking through and around Jackson, there's her little black and white shadow happily sprinting behind her, tongue flopping into the wind. Through each good day and each bad day, Rosie has been my sister's steadfast companion and her rock. Rosie is not just a dog - she is an extension of my sister. There is no Kelsey without Rosie and there is no Rosie without Kelsey -- that is why it is so important to make her whole again and reunite this duo for countless more hikes, bike rides, and other adventures to come.
