Greetings,
My name is Rhode Bouassa. I am an actress based in Los Angeles, CA. Storytelling has always been a unique form of art for not only myself but plenty of other creatives. I moved out to the west coast around 3 years ago with no credits to my name. Shortly after, I was lucky enough to be cast in a co-star role for CBS. It was the day that started my professional acting career and I will never forget it. During these unprecedented times, it's been extremely challenging for a lot of hard-working individuals in the industry to find work. Being a darker-skinned actress, I find that there haven't been many opportunities for those who look like me. Instead of letting that discourage me, my friends and I wrote this fun and adventurous coming of age story! Sometimes in life, if you don't have opportunities to put your foot in the door, you might as well create your own.
What?
Drive, is a short film written by Danielle Rose (our producer), Jana Zal, and I while being quarantined together in North Carolina. We were inspired to create this thrilling story from watching a show coincidentally based in North Carolina as well! This film is about a young girl and her two friends who go on a mission to save her brother after receiving an unwelcoming letter from her father.
Where and when?
We will be shooting in a town around an hour and a half outside of Los Angeles. Our key dates for filming are October 10th - October 11th.
How?
Before filming, we want to make sure everyone who will be on the set will follow Covid-19 safety guidelines. Those on set will have had their Covid-19 test prior with negative results, and quarantine before filming. There will be 5 main talents including myself, and around another 5 people on set who will be part of the production so we're anticipating a small crew.
We will be using the money we raise from here to pay our talent and crew for their work, supply catering, rent the film equipment we'll need, and once our film has completed production we want to be able to send it to film festivals!
I am so thankful to be working with my close friends throughout this difficult period. This will be Alyssa Armstrong's first debut as a DP having had plenty of photography experience, and I am so excited to see what catches her eye in the filmmaking process. It was such a fun creative time collaborating with Danielle on the writing, she is our go-to person when it comes to our production needs and we are lucky to have her on our team.
It's time women get taken more seriously in the industry as filmmakers and we are so passionate about this film. Anything you can give will be very appreciated and we can't thank you enough for being interested in our story.
