From Loss to Hope: Fadi’s Journey

Dear friends, My name is Fadi. I am a 45 year old husband to my wonderful wife Alaa and father to 3 beautiful daughters, Danya (age 13), Kinda (age 10), and Leen (age 7.) My wife and I call our girls, “our flowers”, they are our life and are the reason we remain steadfast despite everything we have endured during this genocide.

Our home, which used to be in Gaza City, was our pride and joy before it was destroyed in the early days of the war. I used to love working for a large bank as an International Investment Consultant and financial broker. Before the genocide began, Alaa was hoping to open a shop.

During the war, we were displaced multiple times and endured intense hardships while living in a tent. When the “ceasefire” was declared, we moved back to Gaza City. We now live in a small apartment with my parents and sister. Unfortunately my elderly father has become very ill with complex medical needs and requires ongoing and frequent medical treatment, which is very expensive. I try my best to provide for my father’s treatment but with hardly any employment available, I have not been able to obtain an income.

We are a strong and resilient people, trying to survive the very worst conditions that have been inflicted on us. We have had to rely on our ingenuity and support from community to survive. During a previous displacement, the whole camp worked together to come up with innovative ways to sustain water for the community so that we all survived together. Unfortunately where I am currently living, there are no water or electricity services, making life very difficult, particularly in the evenings with no light. It even means that our children cannot do their homework as they cannot see after dark. Thus, despite our best efforts, with all infrastructure destroyed, limited job opportunities, and restricted aid coming in, we remain at the mercy of generous donors around the world to support us.

I do not like to ask for help but the situation has forced me to humbly request support and donations to help my family survive. Your donations would help me deal with the current pressures of paying monthly rent, food for my 8(?) family members, costs of daily living necessities, and ongoing medicine and medical treatment for my sick father.
