Megan's Healing Journey

Greetings Friends and Family,

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Megan’s sister Laura. Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer in September of 2022 and is undergoing treatment. If you are hearing about this for the first time, please know that it was not intentional. Megan is a private person; allowing me to share this with all of you is a huge step for her. Watching her navigate this difficult situation has shown me her courage, strength and resilience. Although there have been moments of darkness, Megan has stayed amazingly positive throughout this journey. I believe Megan's ability to overcome moments of fear is fueled by her deep love and hope for Jaden; Megan and Ryan's beautiful 7-year-old daughter who is bursting with her mother’s love and light.

Megan started her treatment with 16 weeks of chemotherapy in October. To help her body cope with the side effects she made an immediate change to her already healthy diet to include more cancer-fighting foods and to eliminate foods that feed cancer. She iced her hands and feet during treatments. She also started going to acupuncture. Despite the side effects of the medications Megan is staying active and continues to show up for her job, her family, her partner Ryan, their dog Max, and most of all Jaden. Even on days that I imagine are extremely challenging for Megan, she is at the bus stop picking up Jaden with a smile. Megan had a double mastectomy on February 21st. The good news is that Megan’s recovery from the procedure is going well. The results of her pathology report came back with indications that more treatments are needed. She will be starting radiation on April 3rd and there will be additional therapies beyond that.

Most of Megan’s medical bills have been covered by insurance up to this point. She does have out-of-pocket expenses which include deductibles, copays, medications, high out of pocket annual maximums and adjunctive therapies that will continue into the near and long-term future. The adjunctive therapies that Megan is pursuing to support her on this healing journey are not covered by insurance. They include naturopathic oncology visits, lymph massage, acupuncture, counseling, physical therapy, supplements, strength training classes and more. Megan’s family and I would love for her to be able to do these things without the added stress of financial strain. For those of you who would like to uplift Megan and have the means to contribute to a fund for her continued care, I extended my deepest gratitude.
