On 6/11/25 Serenity was taken to Butler hospital, where she had a CT scan done, and they found a mass on her brain along with bleeding. She was then transferred to Presby by ambulance, where they ran tests all day and discovered that she had a hemorrhaging stroke, with all the stroke symptoms on her right side. This was caused by her brain being swollen and a mass pushing on the vessels in her brain. The bleeding in the brain has resolved and right now there is no active bleed. So, now… it’s just a waiting game. Serenity was discharged from Presby on 6/13/25 with no answers. (Trust me, we fought that) but what we do know, is there is a build up of blood around the mass and we need it to absorb before they can do any further testing. And in order for the blood to absorb, we just need time. They did give her a steroid shot and that helped with the swelling of the brain and we do know that the mass in her brain is not growing at a fast pace (thank god for that!)

She will be having follow ups in a month (7/2/25) with testing to get more information on the mass. It is not caused from trauma, stroke, or seizures, as they say. They said that the mass is just “shitty luck” and probably a group of cells formed together. At her next appointment is when we will decide what to do with the mass. Where it came from, how fast its growing, and an over all greater plan.

Thank you to everyone keeping Serenity in your thoughts and prayers. She has a LONG, stressful, busy road ahead of her and all of us being involved to help and watch for signs and symptoms. But I know with her support system, she will be able to overcome anything.

All that being said, I am making this page to help Serenity with her finances, medical bills, and gas money for getting to her appointments, while she’s off work. We don’t know how frequent her appointments will be as of right now, but anything to help is a blessing to us.

UPDATE: THE MASS HAS BEEN REMOVED!!!!!

On 6/22/25 Serenity contacted the emergency on-call surgeon because of worsening symptoms; weakness, cramping in her arm and leg, and slight worsening facial droop. The doctor said it didn’t sound urgent but definitely come in tomorrow.

Serenity ultimately made the decision to go to the ER that night at midnight. They did a CT scan, MRI and also an Angiogram. On the scans they found that the mass was larger than it was previously when she was admitted a week and a half ago.

They scheduled a craniotomy for the same day, Monday 6/23/25; for this procedure, Seren was on a breathing machine.. they removed part of her skull and made a half dollar sized opening that they can go in and evacuate the access blood around the mass. After the blood was removed, they did more testing to get a better image of the mass. It turns out, the mass was several vessels that were bleeding periodically, or bleed, stop, then bleed again, for who knows how long. Probably years. That were considered a cavernous malformation and it was sent away to get biopsies! They hope they were able to remove and fix, all the vessels that were bleeding in her brain. She is going to have follow up testing this week to view where the mass was and to see if there is any access vessels there that they may have missed. The doctors stated that this is something that she was probably born with.

Unfortunately, Serenity did have a seizure during her surgery and due to this, we were warned that it would take a while for her to wake up and it might not be easy. But she’s a trooper and woke up great!!! Her symptoms are about the same, but unfortunately her right arm did get worse. She is able to move her arm above her head but she is unable to use anything below her elbow. The surgeon said he is unsure if she will make 100% recovery, but there’s no reason why she can’t have a drastic recovery.

Seren is awake, eating, drinking, and trying to recover. It’s going to be a very long process.

Im still going to leave this GoFundMe up, with updates as Serenity is still in the hospital and we are unsure when she will be discharged.

We just want you all to know how much we appreciate all the prayers, thinking of her (and her family), and any donations that any of you have sent. And even just for sharing this! This has been a rough road and it’s not going to get easier soon enough.

ANOTHER UPDATE;
Serenity had a follow up appointment yesterday for her two weeks post op. Dr Gardner said that there was a spot of tiny tangled vessels still in the brain that he could not reach. When he tried to remove it, this is what caused the seizure. But for her recovery, she is doing AMAZING! She will have an MRI scheduled in two months, is unable to drive for 6 months, and is off work for another 8 weeks (at least). She will be doing outpatient therapy for her right sided weakness of her arm and face.

The next appointment will be to follow up on these remaining vessels. If the vessels are still there and bleeding, it could grow and she could go through the same process all over again. So, he wants to keep a close eye on it and he may have to go back in, and remove it if needed.
