Pushing to be a firefighter
Donation protected
My name is Hector Machado, I am 18 years old and I'm about to graduate from Maricopa High School. As of attending Maricopa High School, I have enrolled in a fire science program through Central Arizona Community College called (CAVIT) Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology. I have been attending this program since August of 2015. Recently I had been notified that there was a legislation change. The governor passed an education reform policy that reduced funding for schools and cut tuition for adult students. I am the only first year senior in my shift which qualified me as being an adult student which cut my tuition for my fire science program. That tuition comes out to be $2,800 that I have to come up with by May 1st. Me personally am not the one to beg for money, but my career is basically on the line until I am able to come up with the money. I am way too far in the program to give up on myself and not achieve my main goal in life. My number one dream was to become a firefighter. When I was little I was the one always looking at the BIG red truck and hearing the sirens go off around me going down the road. Ever since I was 5 I have had the envision of being a firefighter but with me getting hit with this budget cut doesn't allow me to move forward with the class which slims my chances to a very minimum to completing the state requirements and certifications to being eligible to become a fireman. I won't stop fighting and will continue to do whatever I can to achieve my goal. Through the program I have already have been certified in being a fire and life safety educator 1 and S-130/190 Basic Wildland Firefighting, L-180 Human Factors on the the fire line, S-133 Look up, Look Down, Look Around and S-134 LCES. Not asking for much, but anything will help and be very much appreciated by not only me but by my family as well, Thank you very much.
