Can you imagine losing your home of 10 years and all of your belongings in a fire?
Can you imagine being a child in a family of 8 and that happening? Even worse - what if that happened the day after Christmas, so that not only did you lose everything you had but all of your new gifts too?

Unfortunately for one family local to our Gloucester, VA community exactly that has happened. A sweet, kind family of 8; a mother and her seven children: a little boy 8 months old; two little girls aged 3 and 6; two boys aged 12 and 14; and two young ladies aged 16 and 18. One of the children is in college on scholarships and lost her laptop as well as all of the belongings she brought home for winter break; the 16 year old is in honors classes at Gloucester High.
Abingdon Volunteer Fire Dept responded to the fire and were on scene for two hours. The fire, which started in a wall socket, engulfed the front half of the trailer and although it didn’t spread to the back everything has been lost because of heat and smoke damage.
The family was lucky to not be physically harmed, but they are hurting and now is the time to help. This close to Christmas finds all of our wallets a little less full but our hearts more than full. Consider sacrificing a meal out or some coffee from your favorite coffee joint and instead donate that so we can help this family start over again in 2018.
