Our youngest sister Melodie and her family escaped a house fire two nights ago with the clothes on their back and their 6-month old baby girl in a onesie. It was -25 degrees & 4:30 am. Then Phillipe raced back in to rescue their dog, Nujaapik, who was frozen with fear!
All members of the Sammurtok-Lavallee family are safe but have lost everything to the fire. They have been told they will be unable to return home for several months.
The fire started outside, travelling through the kitchen walls, up to their 2nd-floor bedroom. Upon waking, they grabbed the baby & ran. They waited in their car until the Fire Department arrived and a neighbor was able to take them in a 5am.
Although our dear sister's family is safe, they will be in recovery for weeks and months to come. To help them rebuild their home and provide for the baby, we are asking our friends and family to help.
At the moment, the basic necessities are taken care of, meaning they do not need home items or clothing donations. They need money to pay for food, gas, incidentals, and bills.
Please help us raise the funds needed to get Melodie, Phillipe and their beautiful baby girl back up on their feet as soon as possible!
