Great North Run 2025

Hi, my name is Matthew and this September I’ll be taking on my second Great North Run — this time with even more purpose.

I’m running in support of Samaritans and Asthma + Lung UK, two charities that have played huge roles in my life.

Growing up, I struggled with severe bullying at school. It took a toll on my mental health, and there were times I didn’t see a way forward. But Samaritans were always there — helping me cope, helping me feel seen, and giving me hope when I needed it most.

I also live with asthma, something that could’ve easily held me back. But thanks to Asthma + Lung UK, I learned how to manage it properly and stop seeing it as a limitation. Their support helped me take control of my condition — and my life.

I ran my first Great North Run in 2 hours and 57 minutes, just scraping under my 3-hour target. Now, a year later, I’m coming back stronger — physically and mentally. This year, I’m aiming for 2 hours and 30 minutes. A realistic goal, but one that still pushes me.

But this run isn’t just for charity — it’s for me, for my health, and for my family. I’m on a journey to become unrecognisable — not just in how I look, but in my strength, confidence, and mindset. The support I’ve received from these charities helped shape who I am today, and I want to give something back.

I’m aiming to raise £300 total, with an even £150 split between both charities. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference — and your support means the world to me.

Let’s run it together — for better mental health, better lung health, and a better future.
Thank you.

— Matthew
