I am a third year student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Human Development and Family Sciences while specializing in Early Childhood with a Pre-Health Professions Certificate. After graduation, I plan to enter Physician Assistant school where I will study to become a Pediatric PA. I recently have had the opportunity to get accepted to go Study Abroad with the School of International Training for a program called Kenya: Public Health in the Tropics. While there, I will develop an understanding of the complexities of public health promotion and practice in Kenya and in the tropics more broadly while gaining practical work experience in public health. I have the choice of interning at the Centers for Disease Control or the Kenya Medical Research Institute. I will also be able to challenge myself by working in an intercultural setting, gain insight in the field of health, and develop skills that I could apply in my future. It has always been a dream of mine to Study Abroad, and being able to attend this program will not only be a once in a life time opportunity, but also make me a more competitive applicant when I apply for PA school. The expenses that I am raising this money for are for my books, tuition, as well as the money I will need while I am interning in Kenya.
