When my nephew, Kayden, was 1 month old he was airlifted to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware and diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. After spending 3 months in the hospital, the cardiac team was able to get Kayden on the right medications and to a place where he could go home and live a “normal” life. Because of that, we got to spend Christmas & Kayden’s first birthday together!
However, about 3 weeks ago, Kayden came down with COVID. As a precaution, Nemours wanted to bring him in so they could monitor him. I’ll be forever grateful that they did that. Kayden has declined rapidly and his condition now warrants needing a heart transplant. He will be receiving a Berlin Heart in the coming days, which will help his heart work a bit better while he waits to receive a new one. Due to this, he will not be able to leave the hospital until then. The doctors are guessing within a year.
During this time, my sister is staying at a Ronald McDonald house across the street from the hospital (another new thing I’ve learned to be grateful for). While this is not even on my sister and her husband’s mind right now, I know what kind of expenses they’ve already accrued and the ones that may be coming down the line.
Any bit helps my sister and her family get through this time. If you can’t help financially, we’ll accept any bit of prayers and well wishes that can be offered. Thank you ❤️
