***2nd Update: Tyler's Current Treatment Status:

Having completed his first chemotherapy session, Tyler will remain hospitalized for four weeks for recovery and close monitoring. His treatment plan includes 3-5 more chemotherapy sessions in succession and a stem cell transfusion, with the exact schedule still not finalized. His doctor said the chemotherapy injections itself is not the worst part, but rather the potential side effects after treatment including hair loss, nose bleeds, and severe nausea amongst other symptoms. Let’s cross our fingers his body responds well to the drugs.

****Update on which type of Leukemia... Acute Monocytic Myeloid Leukemia.

On July 22, 2025, at age 22, our beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, doggy (Bailey) dad, and boyfriend, Tyler was diagnosed with Leukemia.

This devastating news has shaken the family to its core, but we are determined to do everything in our power to help Tyler fight this long, hard battle.

Tyler started with a cold about a month ago. He had symptoms that showed up and weren’t getting any better, such as persistent fatigue, weakness, unexplained extreme weight loss, difficulty breathing, and aches and pains in his bones and joints. He did not seek medical attention as he just brushed it off as some “simple ailment” and because he does not have health insurance. In the middle of the night of July 21, he woke up coughing up blood. He was rushed to the emergency room where they did blood work. In a matter of just a few hours, when the results for the blood work came back, everything he knew as 'normal' was taken away. He was then transported to M.D. Anderson in Houston to do further testing and start treatment.

Tyler is currently hospitalized at M.D. Anderson in Houston, awaiting the bone marrow biopsy test results, while his Leukemia team plans his treatment protocol to give him the best chance at recovery. He will remain there for at least a month for treatment. And if this is not terrifying enough, his mother, sister, and girlfriend traveled to Houston to be with him only for their SUV to be stolen out of the parking garage while visiting with him. This left them with the added stress of dealing with police reports, insurance claims, no clothes and daily supplies, and finding transportation to and from the Airbnb and hospital and traveling back home.
