My mom, Linda, is now losing her battle with cancer. She has fought, and won, but the cancer has come back. Then she had multiple strokes, which left her entire left side flaccid. But she still had that fight in her, and when the doctors were writing her off she insisted on treatment. She has been in therapy and doing her best. But with the cancer spreading, the strokes and now pneumonia, her body can no longer fight.
We are now facing a hospice situation. She is in the hospital and they are pressing for the family to take over and her to be discharged to hospice care. We really don’t have much time to make that happen. Unfortunately her Medicare will only cover the expense in certain conditions, which she is not eligible. We are responsible for the expense. I have talked with many people and agencies, and our options are limited. I have covered all bases, and we are responsible to pay. The family cannot in any way afford the expense of hospice. I have also not uncovered any kind of life insurance, and have no funds for final expenses for my mom.
At this time of dealing with the emotion of losing my mother, this added stress is too much. Until yesterday I was under the impression that insurance covered hospice costs. So the family has been hit with a lot all at once.
Any amount of help we would be so incredibly grateful for. We only wish for my mom to live out the time that she has left in peace and comfort.
*because I do not know how much longer we will have with my mom, I do not know a precise total needed. The “goal” is only an estimated cost*
