Let me introduce you to Wendy Dyer, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, dear friend and one of the best Early Childhood Educators ever to grace this earth. Her kindness and generousity knew no bounds. Her friendship was steadfast and true. As an educator she knew all of the songs and stories and made up many of her own. She would start early every day before anyone else arrived to make sure the coffee and tea were ready and a snack was on the staff room table. She stayed late every evening to make sure that things were tidied up, everyone was supported and that things were ready for the next day. She cared. She cared about the big things and also the little things. She had a card for every occasion and often made her own. All of us that had the opportunity to work with Wendy and learn from her are forever changed. She taught us how to care for each other and pay attention to the little things. Wendy also had a profound influence on all of the children and families that she nurtured over the many years that she was an educator at Tower Nursery at University of Toronto and then when it became the Childcare on Charles a George Brown College Lab School. So much so, that it was common for her former preschool students to come to the childcare centre and ask if Wendy was still there and then introduce their own children to her.
Sadly, Wendy passed peacefully on July 3rd, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. She is deeply loved and missed by all who knew and loved her. For this reason we want to have a commemorative bench placed at 35 Charles St to honour her life as an Early Childhood Educator. We want this to be a place where anyone can come and visit with her and remember her beauty and kindness. Please consider donating to help us place this commemorative bench in Wendy's honour.
We hope to have the funds in place to order the commemorative bench once the City of Toronto opens this program again (it is currently paused due to COVID-19). Marie Zupo and Lisa Johnston will be in charge of the final expenses.
