"RALLY FOR ROB"
In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 18th, Rob (Hugo) was driving home after working a late night in St. Louis. He was traveling northbound on I-55 near Litchfield, IL when he suddenly accelerated at a high speed and rear-ended a semi-trailer truck. Rob's truck immediately caught fire and went off road. The truck driver he hit and a couple other passing by truck drivers stopped and pulled him from the burning truck. They are our heroes, they saved Rob's life. After being air-lifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, he was later transferred to Springfield Memorial's Burn Intensive Care Unit. Since then, he has been on a ventilator and continues to be treated for extensive burning in his lungs and trachea. He has 2nd degree burns on his head and some to his face. The doctor's remain optimistic that he will make a recovery, but it will be a long road ahead. The family welcomes any and all prayers for his full recovery, peace for the family and to ease Rob's and the entire family's fears.
Many have asked if there is anything they can do for the family, so I have decided to put together a GO FUND ME campaign for my brother. Of course, he will not be working for some time, and Becky, too, will need to be off work quite a lot. They have mounting medical bills as anyone could imagine. They have the expenses of driving over to Springfield from Mt. Zion daily and all the other expenses that come with that. If you can spare a donation to help ease this burden for them during this time of need, so they can focus all energy on getting Rob better, the entire family would be forever indebted. Mt. Zion/Decatur is a loving, caring community that rallies around their own in such an inspiring way. I have no doubt the community will RALLY FOR ROB this time as well.
If you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Cathy (Rob's sisters).
Thank you, in advance, for your prayers, love, and any offering you might be able to make.
Please kiss your loved ones,
Cayla Hittmeier

UPDATE [10.24.18]
Rob was taken off the ventilator yesterday, which is great news! He is still in the Burn Unit ICU and he is still having a tremendous amount of difficulty breathing. His burns are improving, but washing is still painful and takes a lot out of him. He still needs a lot of rest for his lungs to fully heal and he is having a difficult time resting due to his laboring breathing and the anxiety that comes with it. Please continue prayers for Rob and his family, they are appreciated more than you know!
Sincerely,
The Extended Hugo Family
