On the night of August 3rd, my aunt’s home burnt down in a tragic fire. As a result, my family has lost everything. I have been incredibly grateful to be taken in my Melanie, my aunt who lost her home, during a challenging and transitional period of my life.
Fortunately, everyone residing in the property at the time (my aunt, her partner, my younger cousin, and myself, along with the family pets) escaped thanks to the incredible help of first responders and are safe with no injuries. However, they have lost everything.
On June 18th, I escaped my abusive husband who took advantage of my vulnerability and naivety. I went from having zero belongings and living under the rule of an abusive power figure to having autonomy again, owning a car, and for the first time in two years in my life I felt free. I put in so much time and energy into rebuilding my car only for the garage to collapse onto the hood and totaling it as I was unable to search for my keys in the smokey house to move it.
I appreciate any and all support at this time. As my incredible aunt has been financially supporting me while I get back on my feet, but I cannot allow myself to request financial assistance from her during this crisis, It’s necessary for me to build independence. This money will be going towards a new car so I can start my new job as an BHT
