My husband is a police officer. A few nights ago, he encountered a homeless family. In this family, there are mom and dad, 14, 13, 11, 9 year olds and, soon, a newborn baby boy. Dad works when there is work for him, but there hasn’t been much lately. When he does work, they are able to stay in a motel for the night. When he doesn’t, there is nowhere for them to sleep. Because of the size of their family and the ages of the kids, public housing is difficult to obtain. A local church collected donations and was able to place them in a motel for 5 nights. Some friends and family of mine also donated and we were able to extend their stay for 7 more nights. They have begun the process of trying to get transitional/permanent housing, but that could take up to 60 days. This is a lovely family who have been so grateful for the help they have received thus far.
Please find it in your heart to donate whatever you can to help keep them in the motel room (at the very least) until they can secure housing. No amount is too small! Every single penny collected will go towards housing for them. God bless!!
