Kori, 26 was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the young age of 6 years old. As many may know or can imagine how devastating that is for families to learn especially for a child who just wants to be a kid. Even though Kori has battled with health issues at an early age, she still became the vibrant self being she was destined to be. Kori graduated high school and went onto college where she eventually worked with patients at an assisted living facility where she was able to help those in need. On her free time, Kori loves hanging out with friends and family but most importantly her 4-year-old son who brings her the most joy. In 2020, Kori went into complete renal failure due to complications of Covid and has been on dialysis since May 2021. Naturally, Kori continued focusing on what was meaningful to her until her body wasn't as forgiving as she expected. Kori is currently active on the waiting list with United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) for a Kidney and Pancreas transplantation. Kori is on the top of the list and is currently in the process of verifying if the organs available are the perfect match! Once Kori proceeds with the transplant surgery the recovery will take approximately 3 months or so. While recovery time from this procedure is very critical for Kori as she has to watch and see how her body accepts the new organs, she also has additional obstacles she is facing: Medical Debt - copays, medication costs, traveling to hospital for testing and appointments, to include the financial burden of remaining balances from what the insurances did not cover. Cost of Living/Loss Wages - housing, financial obligations, along with other bare necessities that occur. Since Kori has not been able to work due to her declining health, she continues to struggle to maintain the needed income. Assistance with her son - Kori will need help for care of her son while she is in recovery and away for follow up appointments with her care team. Unfortunately, Kori is the sole provider for her son as the love of her life and father of their son passed away unexpectantly in 2019. At this time, we kindly ask that you please share Kori's story, send many prayers with positive vibes her way, and if you are able to donate and/or assist with the needs mentioned to help Kori during her time of recovery that would be most appreciated.
