Those of you who know our dad, David Johnson, know that he has dedicated his life to others and never asked for a single thing in return. He uses his gifts to help and support his children, his family, his friends, and every kid he ever coached. He is a father to many more than just us. He is our provider, our protector, our teacher, our friend, our motivator, and our hero.
He raised us to be strong, hard working, inspiring, taught us to give unconditional love and support to all those we encounter. “Be a giver not a taker”. He instilled in us the mindset to never give up, never surrender. We see the fight in him now more than ever and we believe in miracles!
A WORD FROM POPS
All my life I’ve preached the lesson “Get better every day, inch by inch.” God has decided to teach me the same lesson but on a whole new level. I will have to fight with all I have, inch by inch, to beat this monster that is stage IV Liver Cancer. My best hope for survival comes down to a combination of alternative medicines, a few mainstream treatments and of course the power of God. Thus far, my faith and these treatments have been drastically improving my quality of life. However, the diagnosis and the expense of these medicines/treatments has placed tremendous mental and financial stress on both my family and myself. The oncologist told me that he was 99% sure of my diagnosis (having two months to one year of life left). My response was, “good thing I’m a 1 percenter. I never give up and I do believe in miracles!”

THE DIAGNOSIS
In December, Dad was sent to the ER for what his doctors thought were heart problems. After releasing him with a “clean bill of health” he was sent to his primary doctor for a follow up. Having experienced some side pain over the following two days his doctor ordered a CT scan of the chest, liver, and gall bladder. The results came back as gallstones and cirrhosis of the Liver. This raised some more questions in regards to his health, which is when he decided to go for a second opinion at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. After a weeklong series of blood tests, cat scans, and liver biopsies, the liver transplant specialist told him to put his cirrhosis on the back burner because he had cancer. Within the next hour they had him in front of an oncologist. He was diagnosed with Stage IV HCC cancer of the liver. The transplant doctor said a transplant was not an option because the tumor was too big, and they couldn’t surgically repair because there were 6 other tumors (lesions) on the liver. Because his cancer is very aggressive, radiation was recommended, along with a broad span aggressive chemotherapy. He was given the timeframe of 2 months to a year. Since then he met with an oncologist who limited his treatment possibilities because of the worsening of his liver functions, his numbers are rising. He has just been told that he is not a candidate for chemo.
We are actively pursuing alternative cancer treatment options. Through our research, we have found there are incredible breakthroughs being made, seeing previously “incurable” cancers going into complete remission. These cutting edge treatments are very expensive, but they give us HOPE.
All funds raised in this campaign will alleviate stress to help him focus on wellness, longevity, and increasing his quality of life. Please help our Dad win this battle!
We are thankful to be surrounded by friends and family who love, support and are always there for us. Any donations, prayers, visits or wishes of good health are greatly valued!
