Hi Friends,
As many of you know, Cindy Poley had been diagnosed with a very high risk MDS (pre-leukemia) in November 0f 2013 and in June 2014 she had a stem cell transplant at MD Anderson for survival. The results were good, she was cancer free and her bone marrow blasts were normal (0-5%) for 16 months. Unfortunately, she recently relapsed and her bone marrow blasts went up to 30%. Once bone marrow blasts are over 20% it is now leukemia (AML) and the treatment plan is to get her in remission. This phase is called “Induction”. Once her blasts get back to 0-5% and the ideal situation is to have another stem cell transplant from a different donor.
Despite that Cindy has insurance there are some uncovered expenses. Last year she paid over 20,000 from her pocket but the donations that were given helped her cover half of that amount. She received over $4700 from the Go Fund ME site; there were bake sales and personal checks she received at home.
If several people donate even a modest amount it all adds up, so if you can, please donate something to help relieve some financial stress from Cindy as she works through her treatment. This time around there will be more expenses because it is a longer marathon. Cindy is also planning to sell personal assets to raise money.
If you cannot donate, perhaps you can donate some time. Facebooking, calling, and encouragement is very helpful. During transplant time she will need volunteers to stay in her room, and then in her apartment she will need caregivers for 100 days. Last year volunteers came from near and far to help out and Cindy was extremely touched and grateful. Some stayed for a week and others longer. The only requirement is that you are not sick when you are caring for her.
We appreciate all who love her and assist in her time of need. She is alone without family here and despite she has had some challenging days she wants you to know she is going to succeed.
