4SZNS, an original play, Frenzy Fest Entry!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Mayah Lourdes Burke, and I am the playwright, director and producer for 4SZNS.

Logline: Through the eyes of Nature, life is full of endless possibilities. And yet, time’s clock is always ticking. Partner, comfortable with society’s rules, doesn’t understand Nature like they promised to. Can the thrill of adventure be acknowledged before it’s too late?

4SZNS is an exploration of the tumultuous journey of the birth and the death of a relationship through the metaphor of the seasons, of time, and of change. Why do people drift apart? What makes a person stay? When do you know it is time to give up? We follow two characters, Nature and her Partner, in a year-long journey in four parts. We are also accompanied by the Sunflower, who orchestrates the story through dance and guides Nature towards her decision to either leave or stay.

A fully realized production of this project is being put up at the Barrio Independent Productions’ Frenzy Fest in November 2022 (yay!). We are eager to be part of this competition and hope to win! But in order to do so, we have to navigate costs — and are looking to raise $6000 in order to pay our actors, our stage manager, as well as costuming, props and set, and rehearsal space. If you know me, you know I always want to pay collaborators in an equitable way, and this is the first step in being able to do that, especially with the dedicated creators we have on this team.

Anything left over will be used to create more iterations of this project in the future after Dec 2022.
