What is it like to know you’ve only got a few more days left?  Whether for a project, traveling, or returning to work, all of these things do not revolve around a good feeling.  Anxiety and stress accompany the waiting, but these feelings are especially high when you are waiting for death. Mariam was a sweet 16 year old girl.  She and her family had lived in Cairo, Egypt for all their lives. Yet Mariam and her family had to give up their normal lives when Mariam was diagnosed with leukemia 6 years ago.  Immediately, the family came to America (California) because they knew there were better cures. Even though they weren’t familiar with the culture, transport, and living, they had past experiences with America.  Three years ago, Mariam’s brother had died with leukemia at just 6 years old, despite many attempts at treatment in Texas, USA.

Despite all efforts, Mariam passed away on December 1, 2018, one day before she fulfilled her dream to hold her newborn baby sister (Born December 2, 2018).  Even though she was surrounded by family, she died in the pain of leukemia, just like her brother. I personally met Mariam, and saw her twice. Once when she was alive, and once when she had passed away.  Even though I could not help her when she was alive, I can still help her and her family even now. Mariam’s parents have spent all of their money on attempting to cure Mariam and her brother, along with paying for tickets back and forth from Egypt.  Now, in their biggest time of need, the family does not know where to go in order to get enough money to bury Mariam. The family is planning on returning to Egypt and burying Mariam near them in Egypt. Not only do they need to pay for the burial and shipping Mariam’s body to Egypt, but they need to pay in order to return home to Egypt.  Currently, they are living in the Ronald McDonald’s house. Because Egyptian currency is far less than American dollar, so they are lacking the money to bury their daughter. Even though the family has just lost a daughter and are heartbroken, they need to continue to move forward knowing they gave their daughter a good burial. The daughter is currently in the hospital’s freezer in order to preserve the body, but if they do not get enough money, not only will she not be transported in Egypt, but they will not be able to pay to bury her anywhere.  Any help is appreciated, but there are only a few days before it is too late for Mariam. Because the family does not have a bank account here currently, I will be forwarding the money to them. I understand that many people may not want to donate even though the family is struggling. Even though donations are highly needed, if you cannot donate just pass this link on! Help Mariam, help a broken family.
