Mabel is a calm rabbit who I adopted from Oakland Animal Services when she was 1, and now she is 3.5 with a 2 year old mate, Lars. They are always cuddling and sharing food, and they make each other feel loved and happy.
Mabel loves pellets and hay. She gets zoomies that make her ears flop around, and she has the softest fur I’ve ever felt. Her cute little nose and her helicopter ears are my weaknesses!
Mabel perks up at the sound of the fridge door and any food packaging crinkling. She loves to hop up onto the couch for pets, even if she decides to hop away a minute later. She likes face pets and forehead kisses, especially from her mate Lars. She loves basil and apple, and she hates nail trims. Otherwise, she is such a calm girl during the vet and grooming. She is always complimented for that!
Mabel had lost some weight, her spine beginning to poke out of her typically furry and chunky little body. At the vet, I expected to be told she just needs a shift in her food or habitat, but I was told she has fluid in her abdomen, an after an x-ray I found out she has a mass. She needs an ultrasound to show whether it’s an abscess, cancer , or perhaps something else. Only then can I help her. Without the insight from the ultrasound, she will likely die… In just one day, these vet expenses have cost significantly more than a month of rent for me. Today in fact, rent was due. As far as I can tell, that was only half of it. The x-rays, fluids, bloodwork, and pain meds were almost $2,000, and the estimate for tomorrow is more.
