Hi Friends,
My precious baby, light of my heart, love of my life has had a terrible medical crisis this week, as you know.
After an evening at vet emerge, she spent three days two nights in hospital at the Toronto Cat Clinic, getting IV fluids and antibiotics. She went in with fever and very high blood sugar and signs of infection. The vet initially thought it might be a virus, diabetes or an infected anal gland, but it's not. They still don't know what it is. But her vitals and sugars are back to normal. The initial ultrasound report was clear but we are still waiting for the full write-up.
I'm praying she doesn't have to to have surgery or go back to the hospital. She's still not eating well and a little dehydrated but we're working on that.
She's about to turn 15, but she's been in such good health. Just last week we were in for her usual checkup and the vet said she only looked like she was 4 or 5. I really feel she has many years left.
I love her so, so much. She really is my soulmate and such a gift from the universe. I want to do everything I can to help her get through this. I dearly wish we had socialized medicine for pets, but capitalism sucks and here we are.
Right now the cost has been $5200 and that's on top of $1,000 I spent earlier this summer on tests when she had some weird GI symptoms. I also lost a week of income because I needed to be responding to that calls, visiting her, and ready to take her to the emergency vet at any point. My self-employed EI, which is minimal to begin with, of course doesn't kick in until after a week, so I can't access it.
If she needs surgery, it will be much more, like $5,000 to $9,000 more so for many reasons I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that, but if it does I will be adjusting the target goal because I want to give her the best chance I can. She deserves that.
As you know, I'm disabled and work part time, so money is a challenge and my spousal support from divorce is ending in October. I'm also going to have to be off work for several weeks, maybe months, to have the second part of my Gender Affirming Surgery this fall.
I'm setting this at $4,000 right now because I am able to handle a portion of it the cost and lost income, but I am expecting the bills to keep going for a while yet as we continue medications supportive care, special food and recheck visits at the vet, ubers back and forth to the vet, etc.
I hate asking but I do need your help friends. Nothing is too small, even just sharing the Go Fund Me. That said, please don't give beyond what is easily and spaciously available to you.
I love her so, so much. She's been with me through everything and it really doesn't feel like it's her time. Not yet. Please pray for her, and for me.
