LOVE for Taylor!

My name is Minerva Feliciano and I am the Principal at East Elementary School in Brentwood. I have initiated this Go Fund Me page for Taylor Chanoine.

Taylor is the daughter to Tanya Chanoine a kindergarten teacher at East. Tanya is an exceptional kindergarten teacher. She is such a humble, caring, hardworking, strong and brave person. She always has a smile on her face no matter what difficult time she is going through. She doesn't complain about anything. The love, care and devotion that she shows to her students and families on a daily basis is to be admired. It is for that reason that I would love for us to get together to raise money to help her with her daughter Taylor.

Taylor has had a severe Seizure Disorder since 9 months of age. Taylor also developed kidney failure at 3 years old. We had sought several opinions for treatment. On June 20, 2016, we travelled to Al Dupont Children’s Hospital in Delaware for brain surgery to stop these seizures. Unfortunately, things did not go as hoped. When they try to wake Taylor up, she began to seize and was placed in a medication coma. She required a tracheotomy and ventilator for breathing, dialysis for kidney clearance and a g-tube for nutrition. She also got an gastro infection and lost her colon while she was in the coma. During this time the Doctors discovered that she has mitochondrial disease which there is no cure for. On December 20, 2016 Taylor underwent a successful kidney transplant with her mother. Taylor was discharged from the hospital on March 16, 2017 to St. Mary’s Hospital for children a rehabilitation center in New York. Taylor came home in July of 2018 and was doing well, attending school and getting rehab. Unfortunately, in January 2019, she got a plug in her teach and got hypoxia. She lost oxygen to her brain and became non ambulatory and nonverbal. She was still attending school and rehab. This year Taylor’s donated kidney began to fail and has not recovered. She is unable to do dialysis due to lack of vessel access for a port.
