Dear family, friends, and compassionate strangers:
We are sending this message out to ask for your support of Vance Corcoran and his family.
Vance and Madelon are parents to five handsome boys, with the youngest being a senior in high school. They have four beautiful daughters-in-law, three amazing grandchildren and two more grandchildren on the way.
Three weeks ago, Vance, a 17-year varsity wrestling coach from Lake Fenton High School, suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke, while working out after coaching his beloved wrestlers. This type of stroke occurs when a weakened blood vessel ruptures and bleeds into the brain. The blood accumulates and compresses the surrounding brain tissue. Hemorrhagic strokes make up about 13% of all stroke cases. For Vance, this stroke has caused paralysis on the left side of his body and interrupted many brain functions, including difficulty speaking, coordination and memory loss, as well as lost vision in his left eye.
The past three weeks have been a struggle with endless diagnostic testing, as well as emotional and physical lows. Since his arrival at McLaren Hospital, he has had drastic fluctuations in blood pressure, abnormal heartbeat, difficulty eating and drinking without aspirating, as well as pneumonia. Thankfully, Vance was recently moved out of ICU on Feb. 6th.
The financial burden of such a life changing event is concerning for everyone who loves Vance and the Corcoran family. Asking for financial help can be so very difficult. Vance will not be returning to work, and we don't foresee things changing in the near future. Madelon is currently working only part time, as she is focusing on advocating and supporting Vance with long days at the hospital.
The future of Vance's recovery is tricky and unknown. He will be residing at McLaren Hospital for a long period of time, working with therapists to restore as much movement, memory, and vision as possible.
We will do our best to post progress and updates as much as possible. On behalf of Madelon and Vance, we cannot thank you enough for those who have sent prayers, meals, and support! And thank you in advance, for your consideration and generosity!
Update 2/16 - This is what it's all about! LF wrestling wins at team regionals, going to state finals! Coach Vance is still in the hospital, but continues to coach these boys as best he can.
