Hi, my name is Frances and I'm trying to help my brother out with some expenses for his dog. He's been through a lot these last few years. He lost his home in the Tubbs fire in Santa Rosa, our father passed away, he just recently lost one of his dogs who was fighting cancer, just had surgery himself and now he needs help with his sweet Coco.
Coco is a 5 year old Pit Bull/Sharpei mix. She was adopted at 2 years old by my brother Ernie. She was a very shy dog and had a fear of people, but now she is very sociable and loves everyone she meets. She is young and full of life!
On Monday, 9/12, Coco had issues getting off the bed. She got herself up and wanted to go outside to potty. She came back in and laid down....and that was the last time Coco got up.
Coco was rushed in the middle of the night to UC Davis, where they did an MRI, which lead to emergency back surgery on her. She had a bulging disc, which severely bruised her spinal cord, causing her to become paralyzed, caused by IVDD (https://www.matthews.carolinavet.com/site/pet-health-blog/2020/08/14/ivdd-intervertebral-disc-disease-in-dogs). She remained at UC Davis for over a week and is not currently reacting to any pain tests. We don't know if she will walk again.
Coco came home yesterday and is happy to be back. Her surgery was very expensive and she still has has a long road ahead of her. Please consider making a donation to help offset all the costs (currently over $10k) that my brother has been faced with and the additional costs coming in. No amount is too small. If you can't donate, please share!
