My name is Jack Joyce. I am a retired FDNY Battalion Chief from Midtown Manhattan. On January 20th a father, a husband, a friend, and a community man past away suddenly. Jeff Shickler, from Fort Salonga New York, was 47 years old and leaves behind two teenage boys, Jake ( A senior)and Ben ( a sophmore)at Kings Park High school .He also leaves behind his wife of many years, Lisa, who remains hospitalized, all with an uncertain future. Jeff adored his boys and supported them the best way he knew how, construction. An impeccable professional carpenter who was the sole income source for his family. Jeff was very involved with his Kings Park Community, coaching many baseball teams and rebuilding the Kings Park High School baseball field and Dugouts.
I could never say a bad word about my friend, a man who only said positive things to his sons, his players and to his teams families. Jeff entertained us with his wit and especially his swagger. When asked to help out others, especially if it would involve his construction talents, Jeff would always be first to volunteer. Jeff will be sorely missed and every time I see a Hawk flying above, it will remind me of my friend. His way of yelling "GO HAWKS" will stay me and with his baseball team, the Long Island Hawks forever.
His sister Linda, Tom Eagers (retired NYPD) the Kings Park community, the Northport community and myself, hope you will donate in the memory of Jeff, to the Jake and Ben Shickler trust fund. This money is going to ensure Jake and Ben colleges are funded, and that other primary needs are met. The community is also having a fundraiser this Sunday, Jan.31, 2016 at the Park Lounge 605 E Main st. Kings Park, New York. All funds from that fundraiser will be put into the Jake and Ben Shickler trust fund. This will ensure Jeff dreams of his sons completeing college are met.
On behalf of Jeff's family, Thank you.
