Hello, I’m Nicole and I am creating this fund to help my little brother Ryan, who is only 24 years old.
Ryan has been sick since the end of October, and by Thanksgiving his condition was worsening. Ryan couldn’t even eat a spoonful of food without vomiting it back up. He was having frequent nosebleeds, and one so severe that his blood pressure was life threateningly low and we had to have the EMTS come. Ryan could not breathe easily, and had a severe cough. He saw a doctor and was first diagnosed with allergies. He then ended up in the hospital, where the on call ER doctor diagnosed him with bronchitis, they did not do any blood work on him. After taking an antibiotic for the bronchitis, Ryan did not get better. He ended up in the hospital ER again on December 18 2022, but the hospital was busy. They left Ryan sitting waiting to be seen for over three hours, in which time his condition was worsening. He walked out of the ER, and on the drive back home he reached a breaking point. Ryan was pulled over on the side of the road, throwing up and sweating profusely. When he wasn’t puking he was in a coughing fit where he could not catch a breath. My mother who was with him called an ambulance, and he was driven to Bon Secours in Port Jervis, NY. At Bon Secours, they did blood work on him and gave medicine for the vomiting and nausea. When the blood work came back, the doctor said that Ryan’s platelets were dangerously low, and that it was a miracle he hadn’t died on us yet. They came back after awhile, and told Ryan and my mother that there was a 4% chance he had a blood cancer.
Bon Secours quickly transported Ryan in another ambulance to Westchester Medical Center. The next morning, December 19 2022, Ryan was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This was a devastating diagnosis for Ryan, and for the whole family. We were in shock. The care team around Ryan immediately sprung into action, and told us what treatment for this would be. Ryan would need chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and platelets transfusions. There is the possibility that Ryan will also need a stem cell transplant.
This fund is to help cover Ryan’s medical expenses to care for his leukemia. Two ambulance rides, plus the possible stem cell transplant. A stem cell transplant can cost $25,000, and is not covered by insurance. It is extremely necessary that Ryan receives all his treatments, and that he has the support of family rallying around him. Please donate to this gofund to help him get better and reach his dream of someday working in a hospital like the one taking care of him now, as well getting him back to his favorite activity of taking his puppy Hazie on walks.
