Tuesday May 18th my mom was feeling a little under the weather so she took the day to rest, woke up Wednesday feeling short of breath, so we called around to get her tested for COVID. After calling all of our surrounding areas for a test and being refused multiple times she was finally able to be tested in Clarion on Thursday May 20th. They told her just to go home and they would contact her in 2-3 days with her results. There was no mention of quarantining or anything alone those lines.

Friday she woke up in terrible condition, very weak, very short of breath, and was pale. I called our family doctor and told them what was happening and they sent my mom to the ER in DuBois.

In the ER she was talking with my dad and within 2 hours she went downhill rapidly.

She coded in the ER and her medical team was unable to intubate her resulting in an emergency trach. She was placed in the ICU on a ventilator and her doctors told us there was nothing more they could do to save her, that any damage that is already done to her was done and she wasn’t going to make it through the night.

Saturday she was still fighting and her kidneys were shutting down and her survival rate was 1%.

Her doctor said that they didn’t have a dialysis team in on the weekends but my family demanded they bring someone in.

A few hours after talking with her doctors they brought in a dialysis team to start 24hr treatments.

Holly also had to have surgery to get a more secure, more stable airway and they were successful with a trach replacement. They were hoping to be able to intubate but there was still to much trauma to her throat from them trying to intubate her in the ER.

Saturday night she starting SLOWLY improving. Every small improvement was enough for us to know she was fighting hard.

Sunday was a day of all good news , she was holding steady and her medical team was seriously impressed with how things were turning around. Her nurse said it was a miracle.

Fast forward to today, she looks a lot better than where she was. But the road ahead of us is going to be long.

She’s still fighting COVID and she’s still by no means out of the water yet but she’s fighting.

My mom will be in the hospital for a long while and will be without an income as well as my dad being right beside her every step of the way. So any little but will help with their expenses that will add up.

If you are unable to donate we’re asking you to share and to keep my mom and my family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you.
