There are now a total of 129 American Sign Language students who I am blessed to teach everyday but I still don't have enough DVD'/texts for my room. Since ASL is strictly a visual language with its own grammar and syntax, the three dimensional aspects of using DVD's is critical to supplementing their classroom learning time.
I know there are people out there who are eager to support teachers, education, and motivated students. Sometimes people simply don't know what needs are out there. This is why this site is important. You have an opportunity to get these students the resources they need to become the best ASL program in the state! My students are eager to learn and appreciate any act of support and kindness.
The current needs are a small library of books on Deaf culture, ASL Dictionaries and ASL Text/DVD's. I have also established a scholarship fund which currently has $50.00. I would like to be able to give $250 to one of my graduating seniors.
This scholarship fund will be for any ASL student that graduates with honors and wants to further there education in interpreting, Deaf ministry or Deaf studies. There are currently five students that I have that want to pursue these degrees.
Can you imagine what my students faces will be like when those books/DVDs are delivered and when I hand the first scholarship to that student who thought college was not even an option? I can't wait!
Your donation will be appreciated and will be recognized.
Thank you so much!
