Hi, my name is Tara and I'm raising funds for my long time friend and roommate Laura. Laura has been facing many health problems over the past several years. In 2013, she found out she had Celiac Disease, she was recently diagnosed with Diabetes, and she has mild-moderate symptoms of Cerebral Palsy. Laura was a victim of a hit and run accident (as a pedestrian) in 2021. Along with all of these health and medical issues she has faced over the years, Laura has spent her life with vision in only one eye. In 2008, her right eye (the eye that never had sight) was replaced with a prosthetic. She's relied on her left eye and prescription glasses for sight. On April 22, 2025, suddenly and without prior issues leading up to it at all, Laura lost partial vision in her left eye. She was finishing class and packing up her books and upon raising her head she could only see out of the centre of her eye. Then, on April 24, 2025, she lost her vision completely. After having the gift of sight for 40 years, Laura is now blind. This is a significantly life changing event, especially at this age, as she now has to re-learn basic living skills and completely re-examine job and career opportunities. She spent the past 20 years working towards and working in child care and had recently changed directions to work with seniors and persons with disabilities all while going back to school to obtain her Continuing Care Assistant Diploma. She was set to graduate in October of this year. The time, effort, and finances put into her passion for helping others is now far from reach. Laura has had to withdraw from school and she is currently living with her mom as she navigates her new normal. For the foreseeable future, Laura will not be working. As her roommate, I will help out with her living costs as much as I can, however, I'm reaching out for help on Laura's behalf to get her through the upcoming months (and years) that are sure to be more difficult than I can imagine. Any funds that we can gather will be used to help with rent, food, bills, and accessibility. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read Laura's story and we are extremely grateful for any amount that you might be able to give. God Bless You.
