We (Samuel & Charity Okurut) have been living and serving as volunteers in El Salvador, Central America for 6+ years and have never been "home" to Uganda as a family.
We now have 4 children: Benjamin (5 yrs), Eleanora (4 yrs), Eseuna (1.5 yrs) and baby Charity (born March 2015). They have a deep desire to meet their grandparents and extended family, to see where their daddy grew up as a child of war, experience the culture and see the country where their parents met.
Samuel's grandmother, who is possibly over 100 years old, has told us that she is waiting for us to come, before she can die and that she cannot wait much longer... We plan to be there in May, but have no means of surviving once we get there!
We are in Canada for a time of furlough for 2015 and have blessed with gifts to almost get us to Uganda, but once we are there we need a vehicle, home and food, etc. for a 4 month stay.
We would also love to finish building a house for Samuel's parents who have lived in the same mud huts since before the 1980's war that turned their village into a battlefield.
While in Uganda, we want to show our children the culture and the natural beauty of the "Pearl of Africa", by speending time in the village, as well as touring around the country and going on a Safari.
We would also partner with The Father's Heart Mobility Ministry and help with a wheelchair distribution in our home village of Amuria.
