Hello, My name is Michael Summers, the son of Alison and Christopher Summers. As some of you may know, I have been part of Boy Scouts since the 1st grade when I joined the Cub Scout Pack 165. In Cub Scouts, I completed every rank all the way through Weblos including my Arrow of Light which is the highest honor a Cub Scout can achieve. Immediately upon completing Cub Scouts, I was fortunate enough to join a Troop number having the same number as my Pack number – Troop 165. As a Boy Scout, I have held positions of leadership, have filled the position of Den Chief for 2 years with my old Pack and old Den Leader. While being active in my Troop, I attended multiple summer camps in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. In addition, I’ve also spent many nights camping with my Troop on many weekends. Perhaps the most challenging experience of my life was the week long 26 mile backpack camp at Philmont in New Mexico. Since my Pops made the trip in 1952, I was very motivated to follow in his footsteps – and I made it! This is one of my greatest accomplishments. Following in Pop’s footsteps, I am now working on my Eagle Scout rank. Pops earned his Eagle Scout in 1952 and I am only one rank away from becoming his first grandson to achieve that rank. In order to earn my Eagle Scout rank, I must complete an Eagle Project. Through work with my church, scout troop, family and friends, I have chosen to support Voigt Elementary in Round Rock, Texas. Here’s a little detail on Voigt Elementary: 75% of the students are Economically Disadvantaged, 44% have Limited English Proficiency and 15% require Special Education. Here is a link to Voigt Elementary. https://roundrockisd.org/schools/elementary/voigt/ My church has spent many hours supporting Voigt Elementary and I’m going to continue that work. My plan is to construct a fence around their garden in order to keep the rabbits from eating the vegetables grown by the children. My project has been approved by the Eagle Board, the Principal of Voigt Elementary, the Round Rock Independent School District and my church. The next step needed for my project is to raise money to pay for the fence. I realize that people only donate to causes they find meaningful. I hope that you can see my support for Voigt Elementary as meaningful.
