Hello all and thanks for reading our update,
We have started this Go Fund Me account for Kim and Kevin Harmeyer. Kim and Kevin were on a celebratory birthday vacation (Kevin's birthday was 11/9 and Kim's birthday is today, 11/16). They rented a Harley Davidson motorcycle and decided to enjoy their day traveling to Orlando to visit with family. On their descent back to Daytona they were tragically struck by a vehicle. While we are still in the beginning stages of gathering information it is obvious that both Kim and Kevin have suffered debilitating and life-changing injuries. Family has immediately traveled to Florida to support them at their bedsides and to see what they can do to help Kim and Kevin through this tragic accident.
As an update of their condition.. Kevin has suffered injuries to his right arm, right leg, and pelvis. Kevin was casted on his right arm Wednesday evening. He will have surgery this morning, Friday at 11 AM, to repair his pelvis, that was explained by the nurse as "shattered." And he will eventually receive treatment for the double break in his femur.
Kim sustained injuries to her right leg that resulted in medical staff making the decision to amputate her leg from the knee down. She received surgery Wednesday evening upon arrival at the hospital. She will be going in for a second surgery today, Friday at 4:30 PM, and she will then be fitted for a prosthetic leg and begin the healing process.
Both Kim and Kevin have a long-road to recovery ahead. They will both stay under care in Orlando for a few weeks to follow. After that, there will be a multitude of doctor appointments and physical therapy appointments to help them regain their mobility.
We have set up this fund to bridge the gap for Kim, Kevin, and their family as they heal and as the family travels back and forth from Indiana. As friends and family we appreciate the many times that Kevin and Kim have reached out to help those of us in need and we would like to return the favor.
You may choose to donate through this Go Fund Me account (5% of every donation will be given back to Go Fund Me) or you may choose to take a cash or check donation to First Merchants Bank in Liberty or Connersville, IN. If you choose to donate through First Merchants Bank please contact Karl or Eilish Harmeyer for account number information.
We want to extend a huge thank you from the entire Harmeyer family for your generous outpouring of love and prayers. We are so lucky to have a support system this loving, caring, and thoughtful. But, most importantly we are lucky to still have Kim and Kevin with us despite this terrible accident.
