Love for Lisa
To know Lisa Lekas is to know the love she has in her heart for each and every person in her life. Lisa’s story begins last spring when she wasn’t feeling well.
Lisa was diagnosed with CLL, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. At first the symptoms were manageable but she was feeling exhausted. She thought it was due to the busy life of a mom who has three beautiful children, while also helping out other working moms by taking care of their children. She was told by doctors to get lots of rest, and there was no need to seek additional treatment.
Weeks past and spring turned to summer. Lisa became more fatigued and started to experience blurred vision and no appetite. Over the next few weeks Lisa’s symptoms worsened. She had to be hospitalized. Lisa had lost a significant amount of weight, became confused, weak, and doctors had no answer.
At this time doctors needed more information and decided that they needed to conduct a brain biopsy. This procedure was not easy and left Lisa fighting for her life. The biopsy determined that her CLL made its way to the brain causing Auto-Immune Encephalitis.
Finally, with a diagnosis and the start of treatment we are so hopeful for Lisa. However, all of the trips to the doctor, emergency rooms, ambulance rides, and hospital stays, have left a tremendous financial and emotional burden on her husband Jim and their three wonderful children.
Jim has been by Lisa’s side every step of the way. He has exhausted all of his sick and personal days. Lisa has a long road ahead and it is imperative that Jim can be there with her and support the children without thinking about work and worrying about finances. All efforts and concentration need to be on Lisa’s recovery.
Lisa is an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, aunt, sister, and friend. Her kindness, generosity, dedication, selflessness, and optimism has a tremendous impact on everyone she has met. And despite all that she has been through, she continues to worry about everyone else.
As two people who have benefited directly from Lisa’s kindness and love, we would like to give back to Lisa and her family. Although no monetary donation could ever amount to the love Lisa has given to our children, we would like to lessen the burden on the Lekas family.
Please reach into your heart (and wallet!) and help Lisa and her family during this extraordinary time of need.
