Norma Jean was born with a condition diagnosed Arthogryposis multiple. Her condition results in severe arthritis in her joints, very limited flexibility, was born with cataracts on her eyes, cleft palate, hearing impairment etc. She has always been very independent and held a part time job for 27 years. She has been bound to a wheelchair for 35 of her 55 years. Recently she had a bad accident in her wheelchair, throwing her out of it face down, breaking her arm and landing her eye on a stone causing complete blindness. She is praying for a miracle needed to restore her sight.
It also caused damage to her hearing aide. It needs to be replaced and she has no funds for it. Insurance does not cover this: Her ears have become her eyes, and the day she lost the hearing aide was a real low for her. She has been working with Stanford Hearing in Sioux Falls for many years and will be working with Chris there. Stanford hearing aids (Ann Nahum) came and tested Norma today and fitted her for a new mold. The new hearing aid will be ready in about 2 weeks. It is a Phonak - Bolero V50 - SP. with custom ear mold. $2,175.00 and about $200.00 more for the remote control.
Norma Jean has gone from a determined motivated fun loving independent woman to needing someone willing to attend her every need. She is doing rehab work at Good Samariton Nursing Home, yearning to do the hard work necessary to return to her apartment. Her wheelchair will need many adjustments insurance will not cover while she is in the rehab facility.
