Team Schuyler Strong

As you may know, Schuyler has spent the past semester in Australia studying abroad on the experience of a lifetime. As the semester ended and she was preparing to leave for a 28 day tour around the country. Schuyler went to the doctor not feeling well; she had tonsillitis a few weeks ago and it had come back with a vengeance. The doctors in Sydney ran tests and diagnosed her with Acute Myloid Promelocytic Leukemia. The best of all the types of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Acute in this case is another word for fast moving and aggressive and it was determined that Schuyler had to begin her treatment in Australia. The hospital, one of the best in the country, is in touch with Sloan Kettering and they have begun a 28 day course of chemotherapy that has a very high success rate. The great news is that it has a 95-98% cure rate and if all goes as planned, she will be in remission after the 28 days. This is only block 1 of therapy. The following 3 blocks are out patient chemo. They are making plans to continue treatment with Sloan Kettering in the U.S. once she has completed the first block of chemotherapy and her blood and body have stabilized.

Knowing Schuyler you know she is strong and focused and has every intention of getting through this with a great spirit so that she can get on with her education and her plans to take on the world.
