Covid-19 has affected the best of us, everyone is struggling to make ends meet. I am a front-line Community Health Worker working 6 days a week for Vancouver Coastal Health in British Columbia, Canada. During this difficult time, I am helping Canadians everyday to overcome the virus and continue to stay safe at home. I can't help but feel guilty about not doing the same for my birthplace, India. So I have decided to give them some financial assistance, instead of my time due to the distance. My mom is currently living in Mumbai and we have decided to help our community. As you may know, India has more than 50 million people below poverty line who do not even have access to clean drinking water, let alone a roof over their heads. Our current conditions are very tough and we need help desperately. Unlike Canada, India doesn't have a social system in place to support the less fortunate and most vulnerable. Our conversion rate is 53 rupees for every 1 Canadian dollar. So $10 will be Rs. 530 which will feed a starving family for a week. I have personally given my mom $1000 which is Rs. 50,000. She has given $500 to a local business owner who cannot afford to pay his 4 employees due to Covid-19 who can't even afford food otherwise. She gave $250 to a new widow who just used up all her money on her late husbands medical treatment and is now left with two young sons and no way to provide for them because she was laid off due to th.e virus. The last $250 was given to a single mother who was a nanny and got laid off. These are just small examples of what we are trying to do. We want to reach out to the community and look after the most vulnerable. These people have no one to look out for them so my mom and I decided to step in. Every little bit helps. It is my humble request that everyone of you donate just $5 if you are able which can really change a lot of lives. Your $5 can help a family overcome starvation plus it is a lot of good karma for just $5. Here is a link to a story that tells you about the struggles we are facing today. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-52086274
For my friends in india who would like to donate, my mom's google pay account is geeta.pooja28@okaxis if you would like to donate or know anyone else who is interested in donating.
Please check our updates, we have just uploaded lots of photos of the people we have helped.
