The Sollars siblings are asking for help to get their dad buried next to their mom in Arkansas.

Our dad has always taught us kids to work hard for what we wanted and we don’t like asking for help but due to policy changes and unforeseen circumstances we are needing to come up with the funds faster than anticipated.

If you don’t know our dad let us tell you a little about him. He grew up going to work with his Dad as a brick mason. Learned skills he carried into adulthood. Created his own small business repairing chimneys and doing brick work. Dad married our mom Crystal in 2003. 5 kids and many memories and years later Crystal was diagnosed with cancer. Through treatments, all the changes, and so many emotions our dad stayed next to our mom’s side the entire journey. He supported mom and all of us kids through the hardest battle in life. Unfortunately mom lost her battle in 2018. She was buried in her home state of Arkansas. Althouth dad only ever visited Arkansas with mom; one of his final wishes was to be buried next to his wife.

In 2023 dad noticed a bump on his cheek, he thought it was just an ingrown hair so he didn’t tell anyone about it and grew his beard out to hide it. In 2024 the bump became bigger and was now an open wound. Harder to hide, us kids talked him into getting it checked out. Doctors visits wasn’t on his list of priorities. Dad went anyway and unfortunately we found out he had skin cancer stage 4. There were so many emotions felt by everyone. Despite all the should have and could have conversations we began dad’s cancer journey. I say “we” because us kids have been there every step of the way. Dad had surgery in December of 2024. Dad didn’t want to do any other treatment options. Chemo just wasn’t something he wanted to go through. Every persons cancer journey is different and he truly wanted the best outcome.

The skin graph surgery went well, he no longer had a long shaggy beard or the open wound on his face. Drs did suggest radiation and other options but dad was more on the holistic side of things. Although he couldn’t get used to his new normal and became self conscious about the way he looked he was happy that he wasn’t in anymore pain and was making plans to go swimming again.
After surgery dad changed his lifestyle, spent as much time with his kids and grandkids as possible. He got outside and was always on the move doing anything from tinkering or riding his bike around town to even kayaking on the river.

In April of 2025 dad started having trouble eating and started to experience lock jaw. In a lot more pain. He went back to the hospital where they ran some tests and confirmed the cancer came back and was back with a vengeance. Despite the circumstances our dad stood on his beliefs and continued to deny any other form of treatment. Dad continued to live his life, making as many memories as he could with what time he had left. All of us kids stood by him and supported him no matter how hard things got.

September 25th 2025, dad was moved into the hospice house in Topeka. He was comfortable and surrounded by all of his kids. September 30th, 2025 dad laid down his armor and took his last breath. We all will miss him so much.

We ask that if you can, help us get our dad to his final resting place. If you can’t donate we ask that you share.
