The Stand Up and Play Foundation was formed to help people with impaired mobility have the opportunity to stand up and participate in sporting, artistic and other daily events.
I had the pleasure of using the Paramobile for the first time last year and was able to golf at the famed Riviera Country Club. As someone who golfed quite a bit before my paralysis 15 years ago, I was pleased to know that I could still hit the ball just as far and just as straight. If you ever golfed with me before you know that means not very far and not very straight.
The Paramobile is not an everyday wheelchair but a device that can be used for activities like golfing, fishing and archery. It also enables users to navigate terrain that a regular wheelchair could never possibly do, like the beach. A great device like this comes at a great price, $25,000. The goal of this campaign is to create a Stand Up and Play chapter in the Orange County/Long Beach area and make the Paramobile available for anyone with impaired mobility. The funds raised would go towards the purchase of a Paramobile. We would partner with local rehabilition facilities to let therapists and patients know that they have access to the Paramobile for a day at the beach or the golf course with their family and loved ones. Please note that any donations go directly to the Stand Up and Play Foundation and are tax deductible.
