Teddy's Emergency Surgery

My poor rescue Teddy broke his jaw after a freak accident in the backyard during a simple game of catch. Someone in the family was hitting a ball with a bat for Teddy to chase after. Everything was fine until the last time the ball was thrown in the air, instead of waiting, Teddy jumped at the ball and got hit by the bat in mid backswing. Teddy suffered a complete lower jaw fracture. This was an extremely horrific event for the entire family and I ran to get Ted as the poor guy was screaming, bleeding and hollering, scooped him up in my arms and rushed him into Tufts E.R. while being an absolutely crying mess. I have been simply beside myself for the past few days.

Tufts took amazing care of him, after a CT scan the surgeon decided they would be able to put a metal plate in his jaw to hold it back together. His surgery was a success but unfortunately because of the amount of trauma, his jaw is still slightly misaligned and he may need future surgeries to correct it. I cannot say enough good things about the Emergency care given by Tufts. Teddy's initial ER doctor was Dr. Cudney who frequently works at a different campus but happened to be on shift that day. And Teddy's surgeon was Dr. Brenda Salinardi, who performed a perfect surgery making sure everything was done to the best of her abilities. I cannot say enough about his care there. His Vet Tech was Emma who I also cannot say enough good things about.  Their attention to care of both the patient and myself, in the distraught state I was in, was nothing short of superb. 

The unfortunate part to all of this is the added financial burden to make this horrible situation even worse. As of right now the total bills are just over $3,000 including the $500 I had to pay out of pocket before I could even leave the ER. If you or anyone you know can help lighten this burden for myself it would help me and Teddy out a great deal.  I hope no one else has to endure the torture that myself and my family has gone through the past few days.
