On September 4, 2025, my neighbor’s long-running hate for me and my 13 year old dog, Elvis, came to a head. After months of going back and forth about Elvis’s wandering over to his yard, multiple calls being made to animal control, and even going so far as to leave dog poop on my front step. I tried explaining to my neighbor that Elvis lived for a long time on a 100-acre farm and was used to roaming freely and you can't teach an old dog new tricks. But instead of showing compassion, my neighbor went out of his way to get his gun, and confronted Elvis in his yard (who was not being a threat in any way), and shot him.
This resulted in a trip to the emergency vet where I was faced with the decision to approve a $4000 amputation surgery, which would be a hard painful recovery, or have him euthanized. Elvis was already 13 years old, deaf and going blind, and had bad hips as well as old dog lumps and bumps. Which ultimately resulted in making the extremely hard decision to say goodbye to my best friend for the last 13 years.
My neighbor’s reaction to this apparent last straw was unreasonable and uncalled for. I want to raise money for legal fees, damages, and possibly moving costs, as I have three kids ranging in ages from 2 to 11. If this monster would shoot a dog over defecating in a yard, what would he do to my kids if they got loud waiting for the bus? Or when they came home?
I’m looking to raise some money to cover his vet bill which was $593, legal fees, and either fortify my current home with an alarm system and possibly a fence, or to move completely since I don’t currently feel safe living near that monster. I am a mother and a disabled veteran, and a full time student. I do not have the cash on hand to cover these costs so anything helps.
Thank you
Serenity
