Have you ever seen a kid walk in a room and light it up? Meet Parker. Parker is a superhero; he has the ability to make you smile even on your worst day and he is very strong. Parker is autistic so he has faced a lot of battles in his 8 years, and he fights through them all. Parker started school this year with smile, but in early October when Parker was having issues with his eyes, Mom and Dad called in the professionals, turned out his optic nerves were very pale. So little man had to go get an MRI.
During that MRI on October 12th they discovered that Parker had a very large, very rare (1 in 2 million) tumor on his brain and that surgery was going to be difficult and lengthy, and it could take more than one surgery. That doesn’t stop a superhero! Parker has won many battles; I’m telling you the kid lights up a room!
On October 16th he went into surgery for 8 long hours. They couldn’t remove all of the tumor, they were able to get 30% so they made progress. During the surgery they suspected a seizure. They did a scan and discovered that he in fact had a stroke. The surgery did take a lot out of him and over the next few days he rested and started to recover. On the 18th he became more alert but was having some issues with his right side. Did I mention this kid is strong?
Superheroes don’t get to rest! On October 19th Parker was off to surgery again to fight another battle. They removed as much of the tumor as possible but were unable to remove it all. Parker will have to go through radiation treatments, which the family will have to travel for, and possibly chemo.
Parker is awake and alert. Although his road ahead is faced with uncertainty, one thing can never be denied, the love his parents Nate and Ashleigh have for him and his 3 siblings. It takes tough parents to raise superheroes!
They are kind of superhero wranglers, and that can take a lot sometimes. Vacation time and sick leave eventually run out and the duties of a parent continue. The money raised here will be given directly to Nate and Ashleigh to help cover expenses during this trying time in their lives. Please keep Parker and the entire family in your prayers!
