Medical Expenses

Hello, my name is Faye Tudor. I am writing this on behalf of my daughter, Maggie Tudor, 26 years old. Maggie has always been my sweet little happy and healthy girl that always sees the sunny side of life. In the fall of 2020, she began experiencing tingling in her feet. When her feet progressed to a burning sensation, we took her to the doctor, where she was diagnosed with neuropathy. We were told at the time that there are not a lot of treatments for neuropathy. As time went on, her symptoms only grew worse. The tingling in her feet evolved into a burning sensation and eventually spread to a complete loss of feeling in her feet and tingling in her fingertips. By early 2021, Maggie needed more care and moved home with us so that we could become her sole full-time caregivers. That July, she was dropped from our insurance, due to her age. At the end of January 2022, I watched as Maggie became weaker, quit eating, and slowly lost feeling in her feet. She began to lose weight and went from 105 lbs to 85lbs in a short period of time. The loss of feeling in her feet lead to mobility issues and she had a dangerous fall resulting in stitches in her chin. She soon needed the assistance of a walker and soon progressed to being confined to a wheelchair. Recently, her disease began to affect her hearing and comprehension. We now speak loudly and slowly so that she may understand simple sentences. This past March (2022) we took Maggie to the hospital in hopes that she could finally get diagnosed and stay for treatment. However, after 2 weeks and multiple series of tests, she was released her without a diagnosis or treatment. The doctor’s suspect Maggie could be suffering from CIPD, Guillain Barre Syndrome, or Hemochromatosis. They want us to get her into Shands or the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville as soon as possible. Due to her condition, she must use the restroom once each hour, 24 hours a day. Ed and I take turns wheeling her to the bathroom and lifting her onto an elevated toilet. She cannot be left alone for more than an hour, and when we’re both away, she wears adult diapers. The illness is spreading up her body. She’s unable to feel bathroom urges, is battling bed sores and muscle spasms in her legs and arms. Ed and I sleep on recliner chairs so that we may get up quickly to help her use the restroom. I prep all of Maggie’s meals for her and encourage her to eat so that she stays nourished. Through it all, we have never seen Maggie shed a single tear. She always wears a smile and maintains a positive outlook. After a two-year process of Maggie’s systems declining, we are trying to get her accepted into the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. For those of you who are not familiar with the Mayo Clinic, they are considered one of the nation’s best medical care facilities, using state-of-art medical equipment and staffed with some of the world’s best medical professionals. Mayo has been referred to from Maggie’s Doctor but still have not approved her to be seen by them. I have sent numerous documents to them and am waiting for a call back from them. They do not take her insurance and will only take a cash deposit. When the deposit is gone, they will give us an invoice for further test or treatments. The Mayo clinic does not accept Maggie’s insurance and she has not been able to work since 2020. We are an honest family, and proud to be both fiscally and personally supportive of our children. But Maggie’s medical bills have begun to accumulate and will only continue to do so once her treatment begins. We reside in Orlando, Florida and the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville, Florida is a two-hour drive, each way. We will soon need to purchase a special van to accommodate Maggie’s special wheelchair. This GoFundMe will allow us to draw from it to directly cover Maggie’s hospital bills, treatments, and the van. Thank you in advance for your financial support, and prayers.

           Sincerely, Faye Tudor
