Dear friends, family, and community of Matthew,

Matthew is recovering from a sudden and life-threatening medical crisis and needs our support.

In the past few weeks, everything changed.

What began as an emergency procedure to remove a bile stone quickly turned into a far more serious situation. Just as he was starting to recover, Matthew arrived at my door clutching his chest in severe pain, asking to be taken to ER.

From that moment, his condition escalated rapidly.

He was admitted to the ICU after a severe reaction to medication that nearly cost him his life. He was then diagnosed with pericarditis—a painful inflammation around the heart. As he began treatment, further complications arose, including atrial fibrillation, fluid in his lungs, continued swelling of the sac around the heart and now possibly walking pneumonia.

Each time we believed he was ready to go home, a new challenge emerged.

After more than a week in the hospital, Matthew remains very weak. He currently requires a walker to move short distances, and faces a long road of recovery, including rehabilitation and in-home support in the weeks ahead.

Through all of this, Matthew remains deeply grateful. The messages prayers, and support he has received have meant more than words can express. As he shared on April 6th, 2026: "Sometimes miracles do not come with big flashes of light or the arrival of divine beings, but rather in the tender loving care of human connection".

How you can help

We are asking for support to help cover the overwhelming medical and recovery costs including ICU care, extended hospitalization, ambulance transport, emergency procedures, medications, physical therapy, in-home care, and the additional support needed during recovery.

At this stage, costs are expected to exceed $200,000, with further still unknown due to uncertain insurance coverage.

Any contribution, no matter the size, makes a real and immediate difference. If you are not in a position to donate, sharing this page and continuing to hold Matthew in your prayers is equally appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to pay towards Matthews care and recovery.
