Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our message. This fund has been set up to help support Sergey Bokhnyak, who, a couple of weeks ago, was diagnosed with colon cancer. This came as a shock to Sergey and his loved ones. He is 31 years old and in great health, except for his lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes.
Sergey and his long-time girlfriend, Eliza, struggled to process the devastating news and its implications. After the initial shock, the couple joined forces—clearing their apartment of anything toxic or synthetic, researching top treatment centers, and committing fully to his care plan. With this renewed sense of purpose, they thought it best to move from their small Manhattan one-bedroom apartment to a quieter, more healing space in Brooklyn — one with an extra room for his parents, who immediately took the fastest route back to the U.S. from Ukraine to be by his side.
Unfortunately, those plans had to be put on hold when Sergey developed sudden complications. For now, Sergey remains in the hospital until these issues stabilize. He’s on a liquid-only diet for the foreseeable future.
It’s still uncertain whether Sergey’s job will offer paid medical leave. Eliza is acting as full-time medical representative and care advocate because of the language barriers of his parents. Although she loves her job, she faces the heartbreaking choice of leaving her job to stay by his side through treatment.
With so many challenges, known and unforeseen, ahead, your financial support will go directly toward medical expenses, short-term housing for Sergey’s parents, air travel, and other essential needs as they navigate this incredibly difficult journey.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support
