Armando Cosmea Aspillaga, better known to his friends & family as 'Mandy', was murdered on Friday June 17, 2016 by his estranged wife's father- Roberto Robles.

Many of you have read the news articles related to his murder in which he was stabbed 7 times, in an assassins style, and then left to bleed out.

Mandy was born in Havana, Cuba. He grew up with his sister Adelaida and his mother Georgina. He married Flavia Robles in 2010 and moved to Canada in 2011 and in 2013, one of his dreams were realized when his beautiful daughter was born.  

Mandy loved his daughter to pieces and wanted to spent as much time as possible with her. They would walk over to Ramsay park, in the community of Riverbend, where they would play and run around until it was time to go home.

Armando was a hardworking and devoted man that loved his family and friends. Soon after his arrival into Canada he began working with Aecon Industrial Western where he made many friends.

Like many Albertans, early 2016 was tough as he suddenly found himself without a job as he and other coworkers were layed-off. At the time he was in the middle of a divorce and was fighting to be awarded the shared custody of his daughter. He was very motivated to continue the custody battle so he immediately went out in search of a job and was fortunate enough to find employment with PCL.
He was a proud Union member of LOCAL 488.

The reason we are setting up a GoFundMe page is because Armando, like any good son, helped his mother Georgina out who lives in Cuba. She is now in Edmonton dealing with the aftermath of the murder of her only son.

The sad reality is that dying is expensive, and is especially so for someone like Georgina who makes $25/month in Cuba. She has no money, and Flavia has refused to help out in any way.

Mandy was in the process of divorcing his estranged wife, Flavia Robles. They were trying to agree on custody of their only child, where Armando wanted shared custody at 50/50. Flavia and her parents, including Mandy's murderer- Roberto Robles, wanted to give Mandy very limited access to their daughter for no apparent reason.

Since Mandy's murder, Georgina has been able to see her granddaughter on 2 occasions for 30 minutes at Police headquarters-downtown division. Flavia has dictated the duration and place of meeting and as of July 5, has decided that no future visits will occur.
Needless to say, Georgina is devastated!

Funds collected will help pay the expenses associated with Mandy's murder, which includes the Funeral home expenses of which Flavia has refused to help cover any of the bills. Georgina's travel & stay while here in Canada are being absorbed mostly by Jensy Menendez, who has been a friend of the family since 1990, but now the expenses are piling up.
In addition to the Funeral Home fees for the viewing, preparation of the body, cremation, storage, and purchase of urn, there is also a $1600 fee for the paperwork of taking the ashes to Cuba, plus the translation of the documents which also have to be notarized.

Also, now that Flavia has stated that she will no longer let Georgina see her granddaughter, we believe that hiring a lawyer is in order so that she may be granted visitation rights.

All donations will go directly to Mandy's mother, Georgina, and will help her cover the remainder of the costs associated with this terrible crime.

Please donate what you can, as all of it counts. Our initial goal is to collect $20,000 of which approximately $3500 has already been collected by way of St. John's Institute which helped earlier with an online drive, therefore we have $16,500 left to meet our goal.
