Hello, my name is John Kirchner and I broke my neck in a car accident when I was 17 years old. I became a quadriplegic paralyzed from the neck down. For 33 years I have had to rely on others to do everything for me, even down to scratching my nose when I have an itch. There are some days when a caregiver doesn't show up which means I am alone for up to 10 hours before my roommate comes home. The whole time I will be laying in bed unable to drink anything, eat anything, shift around when I am in pain and the list goes on. Just recently a friend of mine told me about this therapy facility, which is one of the best in the country and they work solely with people that have a spinal cord injury just like me. It turns out that it's only 20 minutes away from where I live and this whole time I never knew it. The facility is called CORE, Center Of Recovery and Exercise. They have the most advanced equipment in the country as well as having an enormous amount of success stories from people who go there. Going there and regaining my independence back is a dream come true. However, to get this level of therapy it cost $95 an hour and a regular program is three days a week, two hours each day for at least six months. That's $570 a week, $14,820 for six months. I have enough to go for a couple of weeks but that would be it. I don't think anyone likes to have to ask for financial help for something and I normally wouldn't but to have the opportunity to regain my independence and not have to always rely on somebody else… It's Priceless!!! If you are able to donate even $5 or $10 it would help me get that much closer to reaching my goal and it would be very much appreciated. Even if you can't, that's fine.
